Worcester City Hall Might Be the Best Elopement Location Nobody Is Talking About

If you are planning an elopement in Central Massachusetts and you are considering Worcester City Hall, this blog is for you. The grand architecture, the sweeping staircase, Worcester Common right outside the front doors — this location has everything you need for an intimate ceremony and stunning portraits without a venue fee attached to it!

Why Worcester City Hall Is Perfect for an Elopement
Most couples think of city hall elopements as a quick in and out transaction. Sign the papers, shake some hands, done. But Worcester City Hall is genuinely beautiful in a way that surprises people. The architecture is stunning, the interior has incredible detail, and Worcester Common sitting right outside gives you a completely different outdoor backdrop within steps of the building.

For couples who want something intentional and intimate without the production of a traditional venue, this location checks every box. Drop all the expensive venue and decoration fees, but keep all the love and beauty of the day. What a WIN!

Step by Step: How to Elope at Worcester City Hall

1. Schedule Your Marriage Intention Appointment

Book your appointment online. You will get an email confirmation with a link to the application.

2. File Your Marriage Intention in Person

Both partners appear together at 455 Main Street Room 206. Bring proof of age (birth certificate, passport, or other official document). Fee is $40 by cash, money order, or check only.

3. Schedule Your Ceremony

You can book your ceremony appointment at the same time you file. Ceremonies are performed by the City Clerk or Deputy City Clerk. There is a min. 3 day wait after completing the marriage intention form.

4. Book Your Photographer

Reach out to ME and we will coordinate your session around your ceremony. 📷 We will figure out the amount of time you're looking to save for portraits, locations you want to shoot at, and all details.

5. Get Married

6. Order Your Marriage Certificate

Show up, say your vows, and enjoy every second of it!

What to Wear
City hall elopements lend themselves to something personal and relaxed rather than a full production. A white sundress, a tailored jumpsuit, a sleek midi dress, or a sharp suit all photograph beautifully here. Think the best version of yourself on an important day. Whatever you wear should feel like you, not like a costume.
Where to Take Photos at Worcester City Hall
The building and surrounding area give you more variety than most couples expect. My favorite spots include the grand staircase inside, the exterior steps, and Worcester Common right outside.
Other Elopement and Micro Wedding Locations in Central Massachusetts
Worcester City Hall is one of my absolute favorites but it is far from the only option. Here are a few other resources that might help as you plan:

Making It a Full Day

Your elopement does not have to end when the ceremony does. Worcester has genuinely become one of the most exciting food and culture scenes in New England. The Common is right outside City Hall for a post ceremony picnic. And if you want to extend your portrait session, Bancroft Tower is a short drive and one of my all time favorite Worcester locations.
