The Most Underrated Portrait Session You Have Never Thought to Book
Here is something I did not expect when I launched Studio Joki... how many people are looking for a photographer to help them put their best foot forward on dating apps and cannot find one! The demand is there. The photographers who actually want to do it apparently are not.
So let me be very clear. I do this. I love this. And it is honestly one of the most fun sessions I offer.
What Dating Profile Photos Actually Should Look Like
Let me tell you what these photos are not. They are not stiff headshots. They are not overly polished magazine spreads. They are not the kind of photos that make someone swipe right and then show up to the date and wonder who that person was.
Good dating profile photos look like you on a really good day. Relaxed, genuine, a little fun.
Think upgraded selfie energy, not Vogue cover. The goal is to look like someone worth meeting, not someone who tried too hard to look like someone worth meeting.
I will even shoot some on my phone on purpose because sometimes casual is exactly right.
Location Is Everything
This is where dating profile sessions get really fun. We are not going to a random park and standing in front of a tree. We are going somewhere that actually feels like you.
Are you a craft beer person? Let’s grab one. Do you have a favorite food truck? Let’s go there. Are you most yourself at an arcade, on a fishing boat, at your favorite dive bar? Perfect. That is where we are shooting.
My most recent session we decided to go for beers and of course we ordered a couple. He got one and I got one too — because the photo is just better with two beers in the shot. 😂 It was a genuinely great afternoon and the photos looked exactly like him. That is the whole point.
Just to set expectations... this is not a date. I am very happily married and my husband is aware of my job. 😂 But we will genuinely have a great time. That part I can promise.
The Consultation Call
Before every dating profile session I do a quick phone or Zoom call. We talk about who you are, what you are going for, and where we should shoot. This helps me show up prepared and makes the session itself so much smoother. It is a short call and it makes a big difference.
You Can Bundle It
Need a LinkedIn headshot while we are at it? Some photos for your business? We can fold all of that into one session and adjust the time accordingly. These sessions can range from 30 minutes at one spot to a couple hours across a few locations with outfit changes.
